About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Senior Technical Assistant to join our team at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. As a key member of our Technical Science Support Team, you will play a vital role in providing practical support for research and administrative teams across the campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and process biological and chemical waste in accordance with local guidelines and regulations.
  • Assist in the production of sterile media for the institute, working closely with the Senior Technical Assistant (Media).
  • Plan and organize daily activities to ensure team service levels are met, in conjunction with the Principal Technician.
  • Arrange and assist in the collection of waste laboratory chemicals, adhering to service levels and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate waste records to meet regulatory requirements, in line with local procedures.
  • Supervise and train technical assistants in routine procedures, as required.
  • Support the Principal Technician in ensuring that all services delivered by the team are maintained to acceptable levels, providing cover where necessary.
  • Operate glasswashers, autoclaves, and other equipment in accordance with local procedures, and perform basic maintenance tasks.
  • Stay up-to-date with waste and other regulations, ensuring duties are carried out safely.
About You

We are looking for an individual with a strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work well within a team. Previous laboratory experience in a relevant field is essential, along with basic literacy and numeracy skills. Good communication skills, manual dexterity, and a flexible approach to work are also required.

About Us

The Technical Science Support Team provides critical practical support for research and administrative teams across the Wellcome Genome Campus. Our team covers a variety of important duties, including laboratory waste collection and sterilization, media and core aqueous consumables preparations, and maintenance of cryogenic storage vessels.
