Mid-Tier Banking Sector Insight

The mid-tier banking sector encompasses a diverse array of financial institutions within the UK that, while not classified as 'systemic', possess sufficient size and customer reach to potentially disrupt the financial landscape if they encounter difficulties. These banks typically serve market segments that are often overlooked by larger institutions, including residential lending, buy-to-let (BTL) mortgages, consumer finance, and commercial loans for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This sector includes well-known deposit-taking banks, branch-based institutions, as well as emerging digital challengers and specialized higher-risk lenders.

Role Summary

As a Senior Supervisor within the Mid-Tier Banking team, you will have the opportunity to oversee a portfolio of mid-tier UK banks. Reporting directly to the team manager, you will play a crucial role in advancing the supervisory initiatives across a range of dynamic and relevant deposit-taking institutions.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate proactivity, possess strong analytical capabilities, and have the ability to effectively manage stakeholder relationships. You will be expected to confidently lead and execute the agreed supervisory strategies for the firms under your purview.

Key Responsibilities

In your daily activities, you will leverage your analytical expertise to conduct assessments and identify potential risks associated with these financial institutions. This will involve engaging with the firms to gain insights into their operations. Should any irregularities arise, you will be tasked with investigating these matters thoroughly.

Your findings will be shared with the broader internal team, and you will collaborate closely with senior leaders across both UK and international financial entities. Your contributions will be pivotal in ensuring the effective implementation of our supervisory strategies. The combination of high-stakes work and complex challenges will provide ample opportunities for you to enhance both your technical and interpersonal skills.

We will align you with responsibilities that build upon your strengths. You should enjoy problem-solving and be open to engaging in discussions and debates regarding various issues. Essential Qualifications
  • Proactive approach with robust analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship management skills, including the capacity to influence senior colleagues. Ability to work independently while also being a team player, mentoring junior staff, and constructively challenging ideas with diverse perspectives.
  • Capability to produce clear, concise, and structured written communications tailored to different audiences.
  • Aptitude for drawing logical conclusions from a variety of financial data and recommending suitable corrective actions.
  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize and manage workload efficiently.
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of the influence of external factors and industry trends.
  • Experience or knowledge in the financial services sector.

Compensation and Benefits

We support flexible working, part-time arrangements, and job share options. Compensation and benefits for part-time roles will be adjusted accordingly.

This position offers a competitive salary, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including:
  • A non-contributory, career average pension scheme providing guaranteed retirement benefits.
  • A discretionary performance bonus based on current award pools.
  • An 8% benefits allowance, which can be taken as salary or used to purchase a variety of flexible benefits.

Security Clearance

Employment in this position will be contingent upon passing the National Security Vetting clearance process, which typically takes between 6 to 12 weeks post-offer, along with additional security checks as per Bank policy. Further details regarding the vetting and security clearance requirements will be provided to the successful candidate.
