As the Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be a visible and influential figure within our hospital. You will work collaboratively with a multi-professional management team, ensuring that our care meets the highest regulatory standards. Your leadership will be key in shaping the strategic direction of our unit, always prioritising safe, effective, and individualised care for every patient.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive treatment service that delivers high-quality care to patients with mental health problems, based on evidence-based practice.
  • Provide expert advice on psychiatric care and take overall responsibility for a defined caseload of patients.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team and foster positive working relationships with colleagues, managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the performance of Consultant Psychiatrists, ensuring systems are in place to support appraisal and revalidation, and identify and escalate concerns about conduct or performance.
  • Maintain effective leadership and provide clinical supervision and mentorship to colleagues.
  • Represent the business externally, raising the profile of the business and establishing working relationships with commissioners, community teams, and other key partners.
  • Participate in quality enhancement and service evaluation projects, and contribute to research relevant to service improvement.
  • Lead the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme and foster a culture of learning.
  • Provide input and advice on initiatives requiring a medical perspective, such as implementing NICE recommendations.
Requirements
  • Approved Clinician status
  • Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and in good CPD standing
  • Current registration with the GMC
Experience and Skills
  • At least five years' experience in an in-patient setting
  • Experience of working in a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
  • Experience of working in Acute Services (Male or Female)
  • Ability to take independent clinical decisions and demonstrate clinical leadership
