The successful candidate will be responsible for providing education and clinical guidance to our maternity staff in the areas of fetal assessment, including fetal growth tracking and heart rate evaluation. Collaboration with the Obstetric lead for fetal monitoring and the clinical governance team will be essential to promote continuous service improvement and implement best practices. This role aims to enhance existing fetal monitoring protocols to ensure optimal birth outcomes for infants and mothers/birthing individuals, while also ensuring that colleagues involved in fetal assessment across various clinical environments receive consistent support through regular training and expert guidance.

Main Responsibilities

The postholder will spearhead element 4 of 'Saving Babies Lives, version 3 (SBLv3)' and will be responsible for enforcing and auditing adherence to guidelines related to 'Fresh Eyes' (including cardiotocography (CTG) and intermittent auscultation (IA)). The role will also involve collaborating with the broader maternity team to review, enhance, and uphold elements 2 and 3 of SBLv3 through guideline assessments, educational initiatives, and support for colleagues, all aimed at improving outcomes for women/birthing individuals and their babies.

The postholder will inspire confidence and creativity among our dedicated workforce, ensuring that women/birthing individuals and staff feel safe, valued, and heard. They will work in partnership with the lead obstetrician for fetal monitoring and senior maternity teams to create seamless care pathways and foster a positive safety and teamwork culture.

Essential

  • NMC Registered Midwife
  • Completion of a fetal monitoring masterclass
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant specialty
  • Teaching and learning qualification (Supervisor/Assessor training)

Experience
