About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Safety Engineering Specialist to join our Land Safety Engineering Team at QinetiQ Limited. As a key member of our team, you will provide safety engineering expertise to deliver defined artefacts in support of projects to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assimilate information and gain a good understanding of the problems and issues associated with new tasks;
  • Provide solution options for discussion and agreement with your supervisor and project managers;
  • Deliver solutions for review and approval by your customer and supervisor;
  • Work within a geographically dispersed team and travel regularly within the UK, including to remote locations;
  • Understand and work within the Military regulatory authority's policy boundaries, offering advice and guidance to other QinetiQ business areas and customers alike;
  • Support the development of new and nurture existing business relationships both internally and externally;
  • Support other team members and help grow the capability;
  • Support specific tasks, including supervision of more junior team members and review of their output against client requirements and schedule.
Requirements
  • Engineering degree or equivalent;
  • Analytical and logical thinking skills consistent with those associated with the successful completion of a degree in mathematics, science or technology;
  • Good judgement for reliably identifying and managing risks, and also for selecting the most appropriate solution from a range of options;
  • Good questioning, listening, influencing and general interpersonal skills to obtain relevant and accurate information from others;
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills;
  • A team worker with a collaborative willingness to influence/persuade others to align to a particular course of action;
  • Knowledge and experience in working with the regulatory organisations;
  • Chartered Engineer;
  • Masters' Degree in Safety related discipline;
  • Experience of the design, operation, maintenance, repair or safety management of military land vehicles or equipment;
  • Experience of the design, operation, maintenance, repair or safety management of Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives;
  • Experience of compliance assessments against UK legislation and Defence Standards in the land domain;
  • Experience of writing and reviewing safety documentation for a variety of weapon systems including medium and large calibre munitions, light munitions including detonators and small arms.
