JOB TITLE: Collection Development & Acquisitions Librarian

ABOUT THE POSITION: Are you enthusiastic about curating and overseeing library collections to enhance educational and research endeavors? This position requires collaboration with various library divisions to evaluate, select, and license both digital and print materials. As a Collection Development & Acquisitions Librarian, you will be instrumental in formulating policies and procedures that ensure a well-rounded library collection.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage Collection Assessment and Development:

  • Analyze data to make strategic decisions regarding library resources.
  • Utilize tools such as Alma Analytics, Greenglass, and Gold Rush for collection enhancement.
  • Establish and oversee title selection strategies including PDA and DDA.
  • Monitor pricing and usage metrics for e-journal packages and databases.
  • Address information resource inquiries from faculty, students, and staff.

Oversee Collection Management and Acquisition Processes:

  • Implement selection and acquisition tools effectively.
  • Select and deselect resources based on academic requirements.
  • Manage the workflow for library acquisitions.
  • Provide training on efficient resource acquisition.

Collaborate with the Library Research and Instruction Team:

  • Regularly discuss community resource needs.
  • Collect and analyze feedback to enhance library support.

Develop Planning and Budget Recommendations:

  • Allocate and manage the budget judiciously.
  • Ensure effective budget utilization in consultation with supervisors.

Negotiate Pricing and Licensing for E-Resources:

  • Maintain vendor relationships to secure favorable pricing.
  • Administer digital licensing processes.
  • Stay informed on trends in scholarly publishing.

Administer the Library's Gift-in-Kind Program:

  • Identify and pursue opportunities for gifts.
  • Select and manage donations for the library collection.
  • Support compliance with accreditation and external standards.

Engage in Library, Professional, and Community Activities:

  • Provide services to library patrons.
  • Collaborate on library programs and initiatives.
  • Contribute to institutional committees and initiatives.
  • Enhance professional growth through learning and research.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science.
  • 2-3 years of experience in library collection development.
  • Knowledge of current trends in library collections development.
  • Practical experience with an online library management system.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ExLibris Alma Library Management certification.
  • Familiarity with STEM research and educational practices.
  • Previous experience in an academic library setting.
  • Understanding of open access publishing.

Salary Range: Anticipated $68,000 - $74,000 based on qualifications and experience.

Location: Worcester, MA (partial remote work options available)
