Position Overview

The Football Association is seeking a skilled and dedicated Pitch Maintenance Specialist to collaborate with the Grounds Manager and the Grounds team in ensuring the Wembley pitch is maintained and prepared to the highest standards for all events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the pitch meets universal playing standards for various sports as established by governing bodies.
  • Follow established maintenance schedules to uphold surface quality.
  • Maintain all pitch-related equipment according to manufacturer specifications for optimal performance.
  • Coordinate pitch logistics in alignment with the events calendar, including the setup of pitch protection and rehearsal scheduling.
  • Work alongside Pitch Contractors to restore the pitch based on event requirements.
  • Execute daily operations such as mowing, aeration, and fertilization as directed by the Grounds Manager.
  • Operate grounds machinery to maintain pitch quality.
  • Utilize data collection programs for pitch analysis.
  • Assist in managing matchday staff and lead pre/post-event activities.
  • Perform additional tasks as necessary to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and wellbeing policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Complete a DBS check as part of the commitment to safety in football.
Qualifications:

Essential:
  • Grounds Management qualification.
  • Experience in maintaining sports pitches.
  • Understanding of the events industry, including the ability to work irregular hours.
  • Knowledge of pitch maintenance equipment.
  • Familiarity with various turf and synthetic surfaces.
  • Basic understanding of plant nutrition.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • A collaborative team player eager to grow professionally.
Desirable:
  • Technical qualifications such as GMA level 2/3 or City & Guilds.
  • General knowledge of football and sports.
  • Health & Safety qualifications.
  • NPTC accreditation (PA1, PA2, PA6) is a plus.
