Shift Operations Engineer

Job Summary
Hamilton Woods is seeking a skilled Shift Operations Engineer to join our team in the food manufacturing industry. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and improving our production process.
Key Responsibilities
- Reporting directly to the Engineering Team Leader, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the production process, ensuring strict adherence to all safety, quality, operational, and engineering protocols.
- You will prioritize safety and quality while ensuring production targets are met, and contribute to overall site performance.
- Oversee the inventory and procurement of spare parts, ensuring alignment with the Preventative Maintenance (PM) system and the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Plan and carry out both routine and corrective maintenance tasks, focusing on continuous improvement within your designated area.
- Provide technical support and guidance to Technicians and Operators, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Assist in the training and supervision of Operators and Contractors, ensuring equipment is operated and maintained correctly.
- Perform essential tasks related to site maintenance and service building operations.
- Manage tasks through the Permit to Work system and proactively drive improvements within your area, coordinating with other departments as needed.
- Offer suggestions for enhancing production equipment and facilities, ensuring that both electrical and mechanical installations are completed to a high standard.
Technical Expertise and Equipment Familiarity
- Proven experience as a shift engineer, ideally within a food manufacturing environment.
- Flexibility to work alternating day and night shifts.
- Multi-skilled, with electrical certification (preferably 18th edition).
- Competent in using workshop machinery, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders, as well as power tools.
- Familiar with processing equipment such as rice huskers, polishers, grading machines, and packaging systems.
- IOSH Managing Safely certification.
- Experience working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Training in Continuous Improvement (CI) within a manufacturing setting.
- Licensed to operate MEWPs (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms) and FLTs (Forklift Trucks).
- Knowledge of BRC (British Retail Consortium) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) food safety standards.
- Experience as a lone worker is a plus.

- Willing to work flexibly to cover holidays and provide additional support for maintenance and production as required.
- Dedicated to ensuring that all work is meticulously documented within the CMMS.
