London, Greater London, United Kingdom University College London Hospitals Full time

Position Overview

This role presents a remarkable opportunity to be part of the pre-treatment team within the radiotherapy and proton beam therapy sectors at University College London Hospitals. The successful candidate will advocate for technological advancements and uphold the utmost standards of care for oncology patients.

The radiotherapy division administers treatment for a diverse array of cancers, encompassing both prevalent conditions and specialized therapies, including pediatric and adolescent care, brachytherapy, isotope treatments, total body irradiation, and limb sarcoma radiotherapy.

The pre-treatment suite is outfitted with a dedicated CT scanner, a mould room, and has access to MRI and PETCT facilities. Radiographers are engaged in advanced practices for palliative virtual simulation and breast localization.

UCLH is recognized as one of the two national Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) centers in the UK, focusing on treating CNS tumors, head and neck cancers, and spinal/pelvic sarcomas. Approximately one-third of the patient demographic will include pediatric and young adult patients. The PBT pre-treatment suite is equipped with both a CT and MRI scanner.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic, and skilled individual to fulfill this role. The incumbent will be responsible for promoting best practices and optimizing the patient journey. They will execute all practical tasks related to preparing radiotherapy delivery with a strong emphasis on safety and patient-centered service. Opportunities for expanding knowledge in the pre-treatment processes for both photon and proton planning will be available, along with the development of skills such as administering intravenous injections, MRI scanning, and advanced practices in radiographer-led services like breast simulation. The postholder will:

• Strategically plan radiotherapy procedures for a wide range of benign and malignant conditions with a high degree of precision. Utilize independent judgment daily to ensure consistent and accurate treatment.

• Ensure the acquisition of high-quality planning images while minimizing patient exposure by justifying each imaging procedure. Regularly apply skills and expertise to evaluate and adjust images, requiring a comprehensive understanding of various imaging modalities. This includes making critical decisions regarding patient treatment and implementing necessary modifications.

• Maintain accountability for personal professional actions.

• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care before, during, and after radiotherapy treatment.
