We are seeking applications for the position of Locum Consultant in Haematology, primarily focused on laboratory haematology.
This role presents an opportunity to engage as a Whole Time Equivalent (WTE) NHS consultant, dedicated to enhancing the Oxford haematology diagnostic laboratory and providing expert consultative haematology services.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of laboratory and transfusion consultants, committed to delivering a state-of-the-art, integrated laboratory haematology service alongside a high-quality blood transfusion service.
Main Responsibilities
Clinical Service Delivery: Laboratory
As the duty consultant in the haematology laboratory for one designated day each week, the incumbent will oversee routine blood film analysis and bone marrow morphology. Responsibilities include supervising registrars in morphology tasks and managing the GP email advice line, ensuring effective communication across primary and secondary care.
The consultant will be tasked with reporting and authorizing blood films and bone marrow aspirates in collaboration with fellow laboratory consultants.
Additionally, the consultant will play a vital role in the training of registrars in laboratory haematology, providing essential laboratory support for training physicians on a rotational basis.
Collaboration with transfusion consultants and the broader team is essential to uphold optimal transfusion practices.
Clinical Service Delivery: Non-Laboratory
The post-holder will support multidisciplinary teams in the management of in-patients, contributing to comprehensive patient care.
