Job Overview

Technical Global Solutions is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Edinburgh. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for creating and implementing mechanical designs that ensure installations are both secure and compliant on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the design team to develop mechanical designs aligned with fire strategy reports, local building regulations, and planning authority requisites.
  • Participate in design team meetings to discuss project progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct surveys of existing installations as needed to inform design decisions.
  • Generate thermal models for heating/cooling, ventilation load calculations, and utilise industry-specific software to ensure accurate results.
  • Select and size various equipment such as AHUs, FCUs, extract fans, pumps, chillers, ASHP, boilers, plate heat exchangers, and other necessary components.
  • Formulate above-ground drainage calculations and system sizing to ensure efficient and effective systems.
  • Choose domestic hot and cold-water equipment and perform necessary calculations to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct pipe and duct sizing calculations using industry software or spreadsheets to ensure accurate results.
  • Develop detailed mechanical layouts and schematics for construction, ensuring timely project delivery.
  • Generate comprehensive design and survey reports to document project progress and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in Mechanical Engineering within the construction industry.
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • Proficient knowledge of CIBSE, IEC, BS, IS & EN Irish, UK standards, or ASHRAE.
  • Proficiency in design software like Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, CyMap, IES/TAS is necessary.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
