Role Overview: As an SEN Teaching Assistant focusing on ASD, you will collaborate closely with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and classroom educators to deliver customized support to students on the autism spectrum. Your key responsibilities will include aiding in the development and execution of individualized learning plans, facilitating student engagement with the curriculum, and promoting a welcoming and inclusive classroom atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and implementation of lessons tailored to meet the specific needs of students with ASD.
  • Provide individualized or small group support to enable students to reach their academic and personal growth objectives.
  • Help create and modify educational materials that correspond with each student's unique requirements.
  • Track and report on student progress, working in partnership with the SENCO to refine support strategies as necessary.
  • Apply behavioral management strategies in accordance with school policies to maintain a supportive and secure learning environment.
  • Support students in enhancing their social skills and coping with sensory sensitivities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support personnel to ensure a comprehensive approach to student development.
  • Assist in facilitating smooth transitions for students between various activities or learning settings throughout the school day.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with children with ASD or other special educational needs is highly advantageous.
  • A thorough understanding of the challenges encountered by students with ASD and a dedication to supporting their educational journey.
  • Patience, empathy, and effective communication skills are crucial for fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • The ability to adapt swiftly to the evolving needs of students and the dynamic school environment.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • An updated CV covering the last ten years, excluding any unexplained gaps, and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
