Consumer Protection Officer

Brackenberry Ltd is collaborating with a Local Authority to facilitate the recruitment of a Trading Standards Officer on a 2-month contract, with a strong possibility of extension based on client needs. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their CV for consideration.

Compensation: £360.00 per Day

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate consumer grievances and inform complainants of their rights and obligations under civil and criminal law, contributing to a well-informed local community.
  • Engage and collaborate with partners (including external contractors) and various organizations, both locally and nationally, as required. Participate in groups established by the Service to ensure the flexible and innovative delivery of the Trading Standards Service.
  • Support, inspire, and train Service officers (including trainees) and supervise them as necessary to ensure effective execution of their responsibilities. Act as a deputy for the Senior Trading Standards Officer in their absence.
  • Perform duties mandated by legislation as a Weights and Measures Inspector to assist the Council in fulfilling its statutory duties. Assume the role of authorized food officers under the Food Safety Act and related legislation.
  • Manage and serve as the lead officer for the Service in designated specialist areas, including budget oversight and the creation of project work, action plans, and timely performance reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Trading Standards (or equivalent)
  • Qualified to enforce Food Safety Legislation
  • Qualified to execute the responsibilities of a Weights and Measures Inspector

Experience:

  • Minimum of 12 months experience in a Trading Standards environment
  • Demonstrated history of working with consumers and businesses to resolve conflicts and ensure compliance
  • Experience in investigating and reporting on violations of Trading Standards legislation

Additional Information:

  • Availability to commence work immediately or at short notice is essential.
  • Must possess the right to work in the U.K.
