Job Description

Venesky Brown's client, a public sector organisation, is currently seeking a highly skilled Street Works Specialist for an initial 13-week contract. This role will involve hybrid working with 2 days in the office per week.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake pre-works site meetings to agree conditions and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct sample, third-party, and routine inspections, taking photographs and preparing site inspection reports as necessary.
  • Carry out S74 site inspections, take photographs, and compile information packs to enable S74 charges to be raised.
  • Conduct S81 site inspections, take photographs, and compile information packs to enable S81 re-charges to be raised.
  • Perform Permit Compliance Inspections, take photographs, and compile information packs to enable Fixed Penalty Notices to be raised as appropriate.
  • Provide daily advice and support to Street Works and Permit Coordinators.
  • Feedback to the Coordination team and record Permit Inspections.
  • Provide witness statements as and when required.
  • Hold defect joint site visits with statutory undertakers and/or their appointed representatives.
  • Liaise with the Police, Cambridgeshire Highways, and statutory undertakers regarding S278, S50, and traffic management-related issues.
  • Deal with correspondence and third-party complaints as required.
  • Collect and maintain records, manage data, and performance information, and accurately enter data into the back office IT systems.
Essential Skills:
  • NRSWA Supervisors Accreditation.
  • A degree in a related subject or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and its associated codes of practice/regulations (particularly in relation to permitting and co-ordination).
  • Working knowledge of:
    • The co-ordination of street works and works for road purposes and related matters.
    • The specification for the reinstatement of openings in highways.
    • Code of practice for inspections.
    • Code of practice for signing, lighting, and guarding 'Safety at street works and road works'.
    • Chapter 8 Traffic Signs Manual.
  • Use of Insight/Symology systems or relevant equivalent.
  • Manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Able to accept responsibility for the consequences of own actions when making decisions relating to the wider highway network.
  • Personable and able to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of using computerised mapping systems.
  • Experience in using a computerised street works database system to analyse/input street works notices.
