Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Electrocardiogram Technician to join our dynamic team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Our team consists of experienced Consultant Cardiologists, Cardiac Physiologists, Associate Practitioners, Cardiographers, and Cardiac Nurse Specialists. We welcome applications from individuals who may not have prior experience but possess a strong desire to learn and grow in this field, as comprehensive training will be provided.

As an Electrocardiogram Technician, your primary responsibilities will include conducting ECGs, fitting 24-hour ECG monitors, and 7-day ECG monitors, as well as fitting 24-hour blood pressure monitors and 12-lead ECG Holters.

The successful candidate will primarily work at one location but may be required to rotate to other sites as necessary.

The standard working hours are from 09:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

The Electrocardiogram Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of clinical-technical procedures, including:

  • Conducting routine resting 12-lead Electrocardiograms: Recording, analyzing, recognizing, and acting upon clinical significance.
  • Assisting with patient preparation for cardiac exercise ECG stress testing.
  • Fitting and removing 7-day Ambulatory ECG Monitoring devices and analyzing data.
  • Fitting and removing 24-hour Ambulatory ECG Monitoring devices (Holters).
  • Fitting and removing 24-hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring devices and analyzing results.
  • Performing basic life support (BLS) and assisting with CPR and defibrillator operation.
  • Ensuring proper disinfecting of the environment and equipment.
  • Conducting first-line troubleshooting and maintenance of clinical equipment.
  • Recognizing the significance of findings and taking appropriate actions based on outcomes.
  • Prioritizing clinical needs for investigations and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • A good standard of general secondary education, including literacy and numeracy.
  • Certification in Basic &/or Immediate Life Support from the Resuscitation Council, UK.
  • Completion of specialist short courses in relevant clinical-technical disciplines.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in interacting with the public in a calm, professional manner while demonstrating discretion.

Desirable

  • Technical competence in ECG recording and interpretation, as well as preparing patients for exercise ECG stress testing and ambulatory monitoring.

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to interact sensitively with a diverse range of patients and the general public.
  • Proven administrative skills and computer literacy for routine use of clinical and patient database systems.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with the Trust's patient information system.
