Nights Transport Shift Manager Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nights Transport Shift Manager to join our Transport Team in Bedford. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a fleet of 150 tractor units delivering up to 200 retail deliveries per day, as well as x-dock & trunking routes from our Distribution Centre in Bedford.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of drivers and clerical colleagues to ensure they work within company guidelines in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Monitor performance, ensuring the operation achieves high performance levels and the efficient and effective provision of a quality service to stores and the customer.
  • Ensure the safe delivery of stock to store and the administrative element is maintained to a high standard.
  • Manage and maintain all yard operations, ensuring a team of shunters deliver an efficient and timely shunt/yard function.
  • Monitor performance, timekeeping, overtime, and sickness levels of drivers and take appropriate action.
  • Undertake such additional duties as may be reasonably required for the effective role within the office.
Requirements:
  • Relevant management experience in a volume/service-driven transport operation.
  • Excellent leadership, team building, and motivational skills.
  • Prior retail customer experience is desirable.
  • Able to demonstrate energy, flexibility, and commitment to succeed in a challenging environment.
