Position Overview

As a Culinary Support Assistant, you will engage in various aspects of our food service operations, focusing on both customer interaction and the effective presentation and delivery of our menu offerings.

We seek a collaborative team member who thrives in an environment where both guests and colleagues enjoy a welcoming and interactive experience.

This is a full-time role aligned with the academic calendar, requiring 37.5 hours of work per week across 39 weeks each year. Flexibility in scheduling may be necessary by mutual agreement, and occasional weekend and holiday shifts may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the preparation and serving of all food and beverages, ensuring compliance with established standards as per the Food Safety Policy.

  2. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the menu and any special promotions to provide accurate information to customers.

  3. Ensure that the catering and café areas are kept hygienic, clean, and organized, adhering to Health and Safety and Hygiene regulations.

  4. Exhibit a strong commitment to customer service excellence, delivering a personalized experience that surpasses customer expectations.

  5. Handle cash transactions responsibly, following established cash handling protocols.

  6. Communicate effectively with customers and team members to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

  7. Assist in managing food and non-food inventory, ensuring compliance with departmental policies regarding storage and stock management, including participation in stocktaking.

  8. Demonstrate a positive attitude and adaptability to meet the operational demands of the service.

  9. Comply with all relevant legislative and policy requirements, including COSHH.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  1. Proven ability to perform the responsibilities associated with this role, having gained the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar capacity.
  2. Completion of Food Safety Level 1 within the first week, followed by Food Safety Level 2 within the first three months.
  3. Solid understanding of Food Safety and Health and Safety practices.

Desirable:

  1. Food Safety Level 2 certification.
  2. Allergen Awareness training.

Essential Skills:

  1. Ability to perform well under pressure.
  2. Basic computer proficiency.
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Flexible and adaptable work approach.
  5. Excellent organizational and customer service abilities.
  6. A committed and enthusiastic team player.

Experience:

  1. Demonstrable experience in a customer-facing role.
  2. Experience working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  3. Previous experience with till operations.
Terms and Conditions

This full-time role operates on a term-time basis, requiring 37.5 hours of work per week over 39 weeks each year, in alignment with the academic calendar. Flexibility may be necessary, and weekend and holiday shifts may be included.
