Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Systems Safety Engineer to join our dynamic team at SYSTRA. This role is pivotal in ensuring adherence to safety regulations and standards across various projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume a leadership position within SYSTRA and collaborate with client projects to guarantee compliance with the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment.
  • Ensure alignment with Railways Interoperability Regulations within client initiatives.
  • Oversee and manage the CSM Team, fostering a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Support the growth and development of the System Safety Team in conjunction with the System Safety Manager.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive training programs related to system safety for both internal staff and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular evaluations and inspections of ongoing projects to assess compliance levels and identify areas for enhancement.
  • Facilitate Hazard Workshops using various methodologies such as HAZID, HAZOP, and Fault Trees.
  • Advocate for best practices in design risk management throughout the organization.
  • Contribute to business development and continuous improvement efforts by collaborating with other disciplines to enhance service delivery.
  • Provide expert advice on CSM and Interoperability issues, along with other regulatory requirements pertinent to SYSTRA's diverse portfolio.
  • Prepare essential CSM documentation, including System Safety Plans and Hazard Records, to support project approvals.
  • Compile Interoperability documentation, such as Project Authorisation Strategies and Technical Files.
  • Assist the System Safety Team with guidance on System Safety matters and engage in Safe by Design initiatives.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven experience in managing the CSM hazard management process within complex, multi-disciplinary project environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor and develop a growing Systems Safety Team.
  • Effective workload management and planning capabilities.
  • Ability to promote cooperation and coordination among project teams.
  • Experience in leading System Safety activities, including training and risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies and independent assessment organizations.
  • Capability to work on both complex and straightforward projects alongside internal and external designers.
  • Membership or progress towards membership in a relevant professional institution is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering and operational design within the railway sector.
  • Thorough understanding of construction activities and CDM Regulations 2015.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK Rail Network engineering design standards and their application.
  • Ability to evaluate the competence of others in System Safety Engineering.

Special Circumstances:

  • Expertise in CSM-REA is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in System Safety Engineering is required.
  • Flexibility in working hours to meet role demands.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Capability to work in a hybrid environment, balancing remote and office work.
