Main Purpose of the Role

The Deputy Head is responsible for managing a small site catering for a maximum of 20 pupils and overseeing the staff allocated to that site. The main purpose is to ensure effective learning for pupils, accommodating their changing emotional and social needs. Responsibilities include tailoring pupils' timetables and logistics, and communicating these effectively to staff, professionals, parents, and carers.

Deputy Heads are also expected to contribute to extracurricular activities and the wider school community, ensuring effective site management and leading on incidents. Additionally, the Deputy Head is responsible for health and safety on site.

Duties and Responsibilities

Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils by:

  • Establishing a safe and stimulating environment for pupils, based on mutual respect.
  • Ensuring goals are set that stretch and challenge ALL pupils.
  • Demonstrating consistently the positive attitudes, values, and behaviors expected of pupils – leading by example.
  • Ensuring the school environment promotes conducive learning and adheres to the Health & Safety Policy.

Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils by:

  • Supporting the expectation that all planning is undertaken, and monitoring attainment, progress, and outcomes.
  • Being aware of pupils' capabilities and prior knowledge, supporting staff to plan teaching accordingly.
  • Ensuring the team provides required reporting and recording of pupil attainment and progress.
  • Meeting deadlines for all assessment requirements – both academic and social/emotional.

Qualifications
