EAL Teaching Assistant (Primary) Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate EAL Teaching Assistant (Primary) to support primary-aged students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) in a diverse and inclusive environment.

Job Summary:

As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional support to develop their English language skills. You will assist classroom teachers in delivering lessons, adapting materials to suit the needs of EAL students, and helping them engage fully in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to EAL students, helping them improve their language proficiency and understand the curriculum.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons that accommodate the needs of EAL learners.
  • Support students' social integration, helping them feel comfortable and included within the school environment.
  • Monitor students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and adjusting support strategies as needed.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive classroom atmosphere where all students feel valued.
  • Use a range of resources and activities to engage students and support their language acquisition.
  • Help promote the development of students' social and emotional skills, boosting their confidence and independence.
Essential Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children, ideally in an educational setting, with a focus on supporting EAL students.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by students learning English as an additional language.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students achieve their potential.
  • A valid DBS registered on the Update Service or a willingness to apply for one.
