About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Power Electronics Design Engineer to join our team at Arrow Electronics (UK) Ltd. in Swindon, UK. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-voltage power converters for aerospace, automotive, and defence applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop DC-DC (1000VDC) and AC-DC converters in kW ranges for aerospace, automotive, and defence applications.
  • Work with customers to understand and agree on technical specifications, including design and development of DC-DC, AC-DC, and DC-AC power converters using simulations and generating schematic capture, PCB layout, and BOMs.
  • Perform design DVT and validation, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, including EMC, Environmental, Shock, Vibration, Surges, and Safety.
  • Create documentation for engineering to production handover, including proposals, project costings, SOWs, and documentation.
  • Support released designs and NPI activities, working with cross-functional teams based in India and the UK.
  • Design, specify, and test products to regulatory standards, ensuring new power supplies and systems meet top-level design briefs and requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working on voltages up to 1000VDC and AC mains.
  • Understanding of safety standards for power converters, including analysis and simulation of power electronics systems using tools such as Matlab and PSpice.
  • Experience in high-reliability design, including redundancy and fault tolerance, and ability to implement fault sensing and protection, thermal management, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with SiC MOSFET key characteristics and proven testing and debug skills.
  • Good understanding of electronics components, board-level electronics, and experience in the processes, assembly techniques, as well as power supplies and their construction.
  • Experience of environmental and regulatory approvals testing and solid understanding of power electronic circuit topologies, including buck, boost, flyback, and PFCs.
  • Design of AC/DC, DC/DC PSUs, experience with digital PSU design, and ability to design PCBs and high-current busbar design using best practices.
  • Experience with mechanical design and layout packages, familiarity with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and FPGA design, and knowledge of PMBus, I2C, SMBus, CAN, RS232, and RS485.
