Rail Freight Rostering Manager

Colas Rail UK is seeking an experienced Planning & Rostering Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Freight Operations department, you will be responsible for managing a team of Freight Resource Planners, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources and the timely issuance of rosters to deliver all Colas Rail Freight services safely, on time, and on budget.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage a team of Freight Resource Planners to allocate resources efficiently and issue rosters in a timely manner.
- Act as a point of contact for the Freight Management Team for all resourcing-related matters.
- Own the rostering process from creation to delivery, working closely with Freight Delivery Managers and under the direction of the Freight Performance and Policy Manager.
- Continually develop systems and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of rostering and planning, ideally in a rail freight environment.
- Experience in leading and developing a team.
- Background in dealing with an operational workforce and staff working on variable shift patterns.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, and communication skills.
- Able to demonstrate a proactive and pragmatic approach.
- Computer literate with extensive experience in using Microsoft Office (Excel mainly) and diagramming tools.
- Competent in using Network Rail Online Logistics (NROL) and Train Running Under System TOPS (TRUST).
- Excellent attention to detail with a problem-solving mindset.
- Assertive and confident when dealing with issues.
- Knowledge and understanding of operational staff terms and conditions.
- Experience in making tough decisions in challenging situations to safely and cost-effectively deliver to customer expectations.
- Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK railway infrastructure network.
- Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to communicate with personnel at all levels.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations applicable to Freight operations.
- A proven team player with the ability to deliver in demanding circumstances.
- Holder of a full UK driving license.
