Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Hardware Design Engineer to join our dynamic Radar Test Equipment delivery team at Leonardo in Edinburgh. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in developing cutting-edge hardware equipment designed for comprehensive testing of our diverse range of Radar products.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of hardware solutions across the entire product lifecycle, from initial requirements analysis through conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases.
  • Collaborate closely with software and firmware engineers to ensure seamless integration and address complex system-level challenges.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers within the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Manage project deliverables effectively, ensuring adherence to established processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering processes, driving efficiency and innovation within the team.

Experience & Skills:

  • Possess a strong academic background in Electronic Engineering or a related scientific field, coupled with proven practical experience in hardware design.
  • Demonstrate exceptional analytical skills, enabling you to interpret system-level documentation and derive detailed unit requirements independently.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering effective collaboration across diverse disciplines.
  • Possess a methodical and meticulous approach to hardware design, ensuring the creation of robust and reliable solutions.
  • Have experience in interfacing with suppliers of key components and assemblies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Well-rounded engineering experience encompassing all phases of the product lifecycle across multiple projects and domains.
  • Experience in customer/supplier relations and working within multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Familiarity with design principles for one or more of the following technologies: Radio Frequency/Microwave/Antenna, Digital and/or Analogue, Power Supplies, High Speed Digital Interfacing, Common interfaces (e.g., RS422, 1553, I2C/SPI, Ethernet).
  • Knowledge of Requirements management tools such as DOORS.

Security Clearance:

This role requires the ability to achieve full SC security clearance and access to sensitive information.
