London, United Kingdom Nuffield Council on Bioethics Full time

The Nuffield Council on Bioethics (NCOB) is seeking a motivated, innovative, and detail-oriented Engagement and Communications Specialist to enhance our communication and outreach initiatives and contribute to our goal of 'Making Ethics Matter'.

Role Overview
The Engagement and Communications Specialist position integrates responsibilities in event coordination, stakeholder relations, public affairs, and communications, all aimed at fostering audience engagement and elevating the visibility and impact of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics.

This role is essential within our Executive team, collaborating across our key focus areas and workstreams, engaging with a diverse array of stakeholders, and leveraging multiple channels including in-person and virtual events, website management, email communications, social media, and traditional media outlets.

The Specialist will report to the Senior Communications Manager and work closely with them across all facets of our communications strategy.

Key responsibilities include updating our website, managing our social media platforms, producing internal and external newsletters, and promoting our new brand identity, which is set to launch in the near future.

The successful candidate will also assist in executing our media relations and policy advocacy efforts, playing a pivotal role in media campaigns and supporting our engagement with Parliament and Government.

Candidate Profile
We are in search of an individual with a background in communications and engagement, encompassing event management, internal communications, stakeholder relations, and digital content creation.

While expertise in health and life sciences is not mandatory, a genuine interest in these fields and the ability to quickly familiarize oneself with the Nuffield Council's operational landscape, strategy, and target audiences is essential.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment and possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills. You should be comfortable interacting with a wide range of stakeholders, from subject matter experts and academics to policymakers, journalists, and the general public.

We seek someone who can creatively convey complex and technical research and can independently manage various projects.

You will be highly organized, demonstrating strong project management capabilities and the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

Additionally, we are looking for a candidate with a creative mindset, a keen news sense, and the ability to tailor communications effectively for diverse audiences.

You should be adept at producing high-quality written materials, including newsletter content, consultation responses, stakeholder correspondence, and event materials/briefings.

Furthermore, you will be skilled at distilling key messages from our outputs and utilizing them to generate content for various communication channels and audiences.

Experience in managing both online and in-person events is preferred. You should also be comfortable with audio-visual equipment and possess experience in utilizing data for analysis, reporting, and evaluation.

Stakeholder engagement is a significant aspect of this role, necessitating familiarity with databases/CRM systems for managing and reporting on stakeholder communications.

About Nuffield Council on Bioethics
The Nuffield Council on Bioethics (NCOB) is a premier independent policy and research center, recognized as the leading bioethics organization in the UK. Our mission is to integrate ethics into decisions surrounding biomedicine and health for the benefit of society.

For over three decades, we have addressed some of the most intricate and contentious bioethical challenges facing society. Our funding comes from the Nuffield Foundation, Wellcome, and the Medical Research Council.

We aim to inform policy and public discourse through timely examination of the ethical questions raised by biological and medical research, ensuring that societal benefits are realized in alignment with public values.

Our work has influenced public understanding and policy shifts on various topics, including assisted reproduction and genome editing, as well as navigating disagreements in the care of critically ill children.

Our independence is central to our reputation; we do not represent any specific group or viewpoint and select our own topics, methodologies, and outputs.

We identify topics for examination through our horizon scanning program and employ diverse approaches to explore, consider, and resolve the ethical issues they present.

Our methodology is multidisciplinary and deliberative, drawing on a broad spectrum of expertise and utilizing the best available evidence.

We collaborate with other organizations where our expertise complements theirs and engage with a wide range of voices and perspectives, committed to enhancing the diversity of our collaborations.

As part of the Nuffield Foundation, we are a small team supported by an established organization that values its employees.
