The Senior Planning Legal Advisor will collaborate closely with various divisions, elected officials, and external partners to support and advance the governing body's planning goals.


Legal Counsel and Assistance:

  • Offer top-tier legal guidance on all issues pertaining to planning legislation, including development oversight, local strategies, enforcement actions, and related domains.
  • Provide insights on the interpretation and application of planning laws, regulations, and judicial precedents.
  • Draft and evaluate planning contracts, enforcement directives, and other legal documentation.
  • Represent the governing body in planning inquiries, hearings, and judicial proceedings.
Manage a varied and intricate portfolio of planning cases, ensuring prompt and precise delivery of legal services.

  • Oversee and coordinate legal assistance for significant development initiatives and revitalization projects.
  • Conduct legal analysis and prepare detailed reports and briefing documents on planning matters.
Mentor and guide junior legal professionals and assistants, providing support to enhance their career growth.

  • Distribute tasks within the planning law team, ensuring a fair allocation of responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with internal divisions, including planning, development, and enforcement teams, to ensure a unified approach to planning issues.
  • Deliver training and briefings to elected officials, staff, and other stakeholders on planning law and procedures.
  • Engage with external collaborators, including developers, landowners, and other governing bodies, to facilitate the achievement of planning objectives.

Policy and Procedure Formulation:

  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of policies and procedures related to planning law within the governing body.
  • Ensure that the governing body's planning policies and practices are current and compliant with existing legislation and best practices.
  • Participate in the assessment and revision of the governing body's local plan and other strategic planning documents.
Extensive expertise in planning law, with a robust understanding of local authority planning functions.

  • Demonstrated history of managing complex planning cases and providing high-quality legal counsel.
  • Experience in supervising and developing junior legal personnel.
  • Exceptional advocacy, negotiation, and communication abilities.
