About the Role

The primary function of this position is to provide a high-quality, proactive academic and pastoral learning support service for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This rewarding role involves delivering one-to-one and small group support, both in and out of class, in collaboration with a wide range of teaching and learning support professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Academic Support: Offer high-quality, proactive academic learning support to learners with additional learning needs, ensuring they have the opportunity to achieve as well as their peers and stay as independent as possible.
  • Collaborate with Teaching Staff: Work directly with curriculum staff, other support staff, and external stakeholders to ensure the learner journey meets the social, emotional, and academic needs of each individual learner.
  • Develop Understanding of Barriers to Learning: Develop a comprehensive knowledge of learning difficulties and disabilities and the strategies to alleviate these, as well as understanding the factors that create barriers to learning and strategies to overcome them.
  • Support Learners in Class: Provide high-quality in-class or small group support to learners identified with additional learning needs, under the guidance of the class teacher, in all learning environments across both college sites.
Requirements
  • Maths and English: Possess maths and English skills to at least level 2.
  • Educational Qualifications: Be educated to at least level 3.
  • Understanding of Learning Barriers: Have an understanding of factors that create barriers to learning and strategies to overcome these.
  • Proven Track Record: Possess a proven track record and experience of effective quality improvement in learning support.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Demonstrate a well-developed ability for problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Knowledge of Disabilities and Learning Difficulties: Have knowledge and/or experience of disabilities and learning difficulties and strategies to support these.
