Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Design Management requirements during the tender and/or Early Contractor Engagement phases, allocating resources as necessary throughout the tender, FEED, and detailed design stages.
  • Coordinate multiple engineering disciplines, including HV and Civils, from a diverse mix of internal and external designers and OEMs.
  • Act as the Principal Design Representative on projects, ensuring that design information is effectively managed and compliant with CDM 2015 Regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of Business Unit and Group Design Management continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate design pack submissions for technical compliance, quality, and completeness.
  • Support project Planners in maintaining the design and engineering aspects of project timelines.
  • Monitor and address key engineering program issues, including the procurement of services and equipment in collaboration with the Business Unit Procurement function.
  • Collaborate with internal Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers to ensure constructability considerations and required permanent works are adequately addressed.
  • Ensure adherence to Standards and Client requirements, assisting in monitoring compliance with these standards.
  • Maintain an understanding of the contracts under which Design Consultants operate, including their fees, service schedules, programs, and liabilities.
  • Review and provide feedback on payment applications from consultants, forwarding them to the contract surveyor for processing.
  • Represent the department at internal and external meetings as necessary, particularly in the absence of the Senior Engineering Manager.
  • Provide line management to a sub-team of design coordinators, including mentoring and supporting their professional growth.

Candidate Profile:

  • Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary design packages on HV power projects or significant linear initiatives.
  • Educational background in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil engineering.
  • Experience fulfilling the role of Principal Designer Representative under CDM 2015.
  • Membership in a recognized UK Engineering institute.

Benefits:

  • Ongoing investment in your professional development.
  • 27 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase an additional 2 days of leave each year; holidays increase with tenure.
  • Discretionary annual bonus and salary review.
  • Competitive contributory pension scheme.
  • Life assurance, health screening, and enhanced sick pay.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave, along with a maternity returners bonus.
  • Additional weeks of leave for employees getting married, along with a wedding bonus.
  • Subsidized canteen services at key locations.
  • Additional Murphy benefits include retail discounts, cashback offers, discounted gym memberships, and a cycle to work scheme.
