This is an exciting opportunity to join the Open University's Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies (WELS) as a Lecturer in Education. You will be part of the Taught Postgraduate in Education Team situated in the School of Education, Childhood & Youth and Sports (ECYS). We are looking for a candidate with experience in taught postgraduate teaching within the specialism of Education related to the PG pathways offered by the OU and who has experience in innovative online digital pedagogy.
Key Responsibilities- Contributing to the planning, preparation, writing, and updating of distance learning online modules for pathways on the taught postgraduate MA Education (particularly Inclusive Practice, and Learning and Teaching) or similar specialisms with resources that may include the use of print, audio, video and multi-media technology.
- Contributing to decisions about curriculum, teaching, and assessment strategies taking account of policies within each of the four UK nations.
- Contributing to the briefing, debriefing, and training of teaching staff (Associate Lecturers).
- Contributing to the maintenance of relevant modules, including preparing tutor-marked assignments, monitoring of assessments, and membership of Examination and Qualification Boards.
- Demonstrating the potential to contribute to the research/scholarship of the faculty in accordance with strategy priorities including possible submission in the next Research Excellence Framework (REF).
- Contributing more broadly to the activities of the PG programme(s) and school as required.
- Doctorate degree (or working towards) in Education or a related field.
- Knowledge and experience necessary to contribute to the development, updating and production of modules in the MA Education (which include specialisms in Inclusive Practice and Learning and Teaching).
- Relevant experience of HE teaching in a relevant subject and module design that engages and retains students or the proven potential to effectively contribute to this process.
- Demonstrable experience of having used multi-media technology for a variety of purposes including learning and teaching, and evidence of understanding of the potential of new and emerging technologies to enhance learning at PG and UG level.
- Ability to engage in research and scholarship through activities such as publications and/or widely recognised and disseminated contributions to learning and teaching in the field of PG Education, ideally related to Inclusive Practice and Learning and Teaching specialisms.
- Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes, and to The Open University in Milton Keynes.
- A strong commitment to excellence in inclusive learning and teaching for a diverse student population.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English, with the capacity to communicate clearly with individuals and groups of varying sizes.
- Recognised qualification related to teaching (or working towards).
- Qualification for teaching in a Higher Education context.
- Higher education teaching experience including creating and marking assessments.
We offer a competitive salary of £45,585 to £46,974 per annum, with potential progression when in post to £54,395 per annum. Internal candidates already within the salary banding will remain on their current spinal point as per policy. Flexible working patterns will be considered, and a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, as this role is contractually aligned to our Milton Keynes office, it is expected that some attendance in the office will be required when necessary and in response to business needs.
