Your ability to articulate the benefits, challenges, and trade-offs of policy proposals will be essential in engaging with Ofgem colleagues and industry stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Development & Implementation

  • Lead a designated policy area, providing strategic oversight and knowledge to support effective decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Drive the ongoing development of your expertise, policy proposals, research, and stakeholder perspectives in your designated area.
  • Collaborate across Ofgem to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Deliver high-quality, timely analysis of key issues and policy options, resulting in evidence-based recommendations.
  • Manage key projects, ensuring effective internal and external stakeholder engagement and timely delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate the benefits, challenges, and trade-offs of policy proposals effectively to colleagues and stakeholders, using evidence to foster understanding and commitment.
  • Work collaboratively across teams and engage with relevant government departments to manage risks and ensure effective delivery.
  • Represent Ofgem externally, building constructive relationships to address challenges in the interest of consumers.

People Management

  • Oversee task management responsibilities, providing feedback and supporting the professional development of colleagues.
  • Act as a mentor, helping to cultivate the Policy & Strategy Profession within Ofgem.

Essential Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of the energy sector, particularly in smart metering and related licensing obligations.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development, including problem identification, analysis, and collaboration with experts to formulate solutions.
  • Proven ability to manage projects effectively under tight deadlines and adapt to unforeseen challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex issues to diverse audiences.

Benefits

Ofgem offers a competitive benefits package, including a comprehensive pension scheme, generous annual leave, and opportunities for professional development. Our commitment to hybrid working and family-friendly policies ensures a supportive work environment, all while contributing to the ambitious goal of achieving a Net Zero energy system.
