Postdoctoral Research Position in UK University

The University of Exeter is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate or Fellow to join an interdisciplinary team of epidemiologists and statisticians working on forecasting the spatio-temporal evolution of Covid-19 in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop an automatic calibration system for Metawards, a high-resolution Covid-19 simulation model, using government data streams.
- Forecast short and medium-term evolution of the disease in the UK over the winter and beyond, with forecasts feeding into policy makers through SPI-M and SAGE.
- Design and analyze large numbers of simulations of Metawards and use Gaussian processes to calibrate the model to Covid-19 data streams.
- Implement a data assimilation system for the calibrated model to correctly seed local outbreaks, enabling real-time analysis of proposed interventions.
Requirements:
- PhD in a relevant field, such as epidemiology, statistics, or computer science.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or R.
- Experience with Bayesian analysis and machine learning techniques.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
