CNC Process Improvement Engineer

Chelmsford, Essex, United Kingdom CloudNC Full time
About CloudNC: CloudNC is dedicated to revolutionizing the manufacturing landscape by enabling single-click production. Our innovative software automates the operation of CNC machines, which are responsible for producing over $1 trillion worth of components annually, ranging from aerospace parts to consumer electronics. Each year, the industry invests more than 100 million hours in manual programming of these sophisticated machines, a practice we believe squanders valuable human resources and expertise, especially in a sector grappling with a significant skills shortage. Our flagship software, CAM Assist, introduces seamless automation to CNC machining processes. With a top-tier team backed by leading investors such as Atomico, Autodesk, and Lockheed Martin, we blend knowledge in computer science with hands-on manufacturing experience from our offices in London and Chelmsford. As we transition from Series B to C funding, we are poised for rapid growth. Role Overview: In this position, you will play a key role in interpreting technical drawings, designing work holding fixtures, and developing tailored programming for various CNC machines, maximizing the use of CloudNC software whenever feasible. You will be instrumental in achieving engineering KPIs and championing continuous improvement throughout the production lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Master and effectively utilize all CloudNC CAM-related tools as applicable. Create and implement CNC programs derived from engineering specifications using advanced CAM software (Fusion 360, MasterCam, Siemens NX, Hypermill, Vericut, SolidCam). Establish the manufacturing workflow for new products, from fixture design to final output. Validate and oversee programs to ensure alignment with quality benchmarks. Troubleshoot post-processor challenges, including program adjustments and planning manufacturing methods. Develop toolpath designs, prepare models, and pursue ongoing enhancements in CAM and CNC processes. Provide insights on best practices for tooling, fixture design, and machining strategies. Accurately assist estimations and sales teams with CAM programming techniques, machine setups, machining durations, tooling expenses, and supplementary post-processing needs. Ensure the availability of appropriate tooling for each task and manage the procurement of necessary materials throughout production. Offer recommendations on design modifications to improve manufacturability. Mentor the production team on best practices and process enhancements. Analyze program execution to identify potential improvements in products and processes. Address and resolve post-processor challenges, including program modifications and manufacturing method planning. Generate toolpath designs, prepare models, and drive continuous improvements in CAM and CNC operations. Advise on best practices for tooling, fixture design, and machining strategies. Support estimations and sales teams with precise CAM programming techniques, machine setups, machining durations, tooling costs, and additional post-processing requirements. Ensure the availability of correct tooling for each job and manage the procurement of necessary materials throughout production.

Required Experience:

Proven experience in developing CAM programs, including process and procedural enhancements. Experience in New Product Introduction and industrialization. Background in creating and influencing cross-functional teams. Knowledge as a CNC machinist and programmer to accurately support the development and validation of 3 and 5 axis programs. Creation of supporting documentation to assist the production team in successfully completing custom products. A mindset focused on Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) with the ability to provide guidance on design changes that enhance component manufacturability. Commitment to Diversity: We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, valuing individuality and embracing all people. The success of CloudNC is driven by diverse perspectives and the belief that everyone belongs. We encourage collaboration among individuals with different skills and viewpoints to achieve our mission of transforming the manufacturing industry. We celebrate diversity and continuously strive to enhance our inclusivity efforts.
