About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our team at Biffa. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of our depot, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of our services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Team Management
    • Provide guidance and direction to the traffic dispatcher team to ensure the achievement of business KPIs.
    • Manage and motivate the team to deliver exceptional customer service and operational performance.
  • Operational Management
    • Oversee the day-to-day shift operations at the depot, including driver supervision and vehicle availability.
    • Work closely with fleet management to ensure optimal resource allocation and utilization.
  • Performance Management
    • Monitor and analyze depot KPIs to identify areas for improvement.
    • Implement corrective actions to address underperformance and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Customer Service
    • Ensure that customer service standards are met and exceeded.
    • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Health and Safety
    • Ensure that all aspects of health and safety are adhered to, including H&S induction and training, operating procedures, near miss reporting, and emergency procedures.
  • Delegation and Support
    • Deputize for the Depot Manager as required.
    • Provide support to other teams and departments as needed.

Requirements

  • Education and Qualifications
    • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is desirable.
  • Experience
    • At least 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the services or logistics industry.
    • Proven track record of working in a unionized environment.
    • Experience in people and health and safety management.
    • Successful experience in managing resources and controlling costs.
    • Lean management understanding.
    • Experience with route planning software.
  • Technical Knowledge
    • Local geographical knowledge and transport legislation is desirable.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time-critical service environment.
    • Waste industry knowledge, including relevant laws, is ideal.
