Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled and registered Clinician to become a vital part of our newly established Integrated Wheelchair Service clinical team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting thorough assessments for our NHS wheelchair users across various environments, ensuring that an exceptional customer experience is consistently delivered. Your approach will be characterized by empathy and resilience, particularly when navigating challenging situations, and you will collaborate effectively with our customer service, logistics, and broader clinical teams. You will manage your own caseload of patients with diverse and complex wheelchair mobility, postural, and pressure relief requirements, while adhering to best practices under the guidance of Clinical and Service Leads.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize, prioritize, and manage your own caseload of service users, including those with intricate needs.
  • Deliver high-quality, user-centered assessments and prescriptions for manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs, buggies, and seating solutions.
  • Operate within established professional standards and clinical guidelines, promoting best practices and executing all clinical duties.
  • Provide advanced clinical guidance to team members and may take the lead on specific specializations.
  • Demonstrate extensive expertise in wheelchair services, supported by comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
  • Oversee and delegate tasks to rehabilitation assistants, rehabilitation engineering technicians, and junior clinicians.
  • Design and conduct training sessions for both internal staff and external healthcare professionals, while coordinating a multidisciplinary team and managing projects as necessary.

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently without direct supervision.
  • Valid UK driving license.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Experience

  • Postgraduate experience relevant to wheelchair services.
  • Proficiency in writing and managing prescriptions for a variety of wheelchairs and seating solutions.
  • Experience in managing a personal caseload.
  • Supervisory experience with junior staff.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc or diploma in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or engineering.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Postgraduate training to M-level in managing service users with complex conditions, or a willingness to pursue this level of study.
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification.
  • Membership in relevant special interest groups.
