About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Director to lead our technical team at Sainsbury's. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving technical excellence and innovation across our product range.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of Technical Managers and Product Technologists to deliver technical excellence and innovation.
  • Develop and implement the technical strategy for our product range, ensuring compliance with safety, ethical, quality, and legal standards.
  • Collaborate with the Category Leadership team to create and deliver category plans, driving business growth and profitability.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and promote innovation across product, packaging, and sustainability.
  • Ensure the protection and added value of our Sainsbury's brand products through effective technical management.
Requirements
  • General Merchandise background with experience in the technical field and industry either in retail or the supply base.
  • Experience, knowledge, and positive results of managing the supplier base and supplier chains.
  • Knowledge of risk appetite, technical KPI's, and governance.
  • Proven ability to initiate and drive category technical strategy and deal with incident investigations in a cost-effective way.
  • Expert technical excellence and attention to detail from our suppliers and colleagues.
  • Able to build strong trusting relationships with colleagues and suppliers.
  • Experience in managing global teams.
  • Understand the importance of strong communication and have the ability to communicate effectively and manage conflicting views to all stakeholders and team members.
  • Create an open and approachable environment for the team and show appreciation to individuals and teams.
  • Have high standards and expectations of the team and create an environment which enables both giving and receiving feedback as part of day-to-day working.
  • Passion for products and a genuine love of delighting the customer and leading people.
