Role Description
Position Overview
Our Automatic Enrolment (AE) teams are dedicated to enhancing confidence in AE across the pensions sector and improving comprehension of AE regulations among providers and advisors.
The compliance and enforcement division is tasked with safeguarding workplace pensions in the UK, collaborating with employers and pension administrators to ensure individuals can save securely for retirement. We promote a culture of compliance through exemplary practices in prevention, deterrence, detection, investigation, sanctioning, and redress.
In instances where an employer or third party does not meet their legal obligations, we conduct investigations that may lead to enforcement actions, including, in rare cases, criminal prosecution.
This position is part of the Serious and Complex Investigation team.
As an independent contributor and team member, you will manage a diverse portfolio of investigations, ensuring effective case management from start to finish. You will deliver regulatory outcomes through various enforcement strategies, including education, relationship management, civil regulatory actions, and, on occasion, criminal proceedings. This role involves visiting employers and stakeholders nationwide, which may require occasional overnight travel.
We will provide a comprehensive induction program, including extensive training on pension regulations and a six-month mentoring initiative to facilitate practical learning. We also support professional development through investigator qualifications with Bond Solon and additional career advancement opportunities.
This role is ideal for candidates with a solid investigative background in areas such as insurance, law enforcement, pensions, trading standards, finance, or other regulated sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver professional and effective case management for investigations of varying complexity to ensure compliance with Automatic Enrolment and protect member benefits in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Employ a risk-based approach to prioritize and escalate cases as needed.
- Make independent decisions to advance cases, utilizing civil powers and fines, and, in limited instances, pursuing criminal prosecutions.
- Conduct in-person inspections with employers and stakeholders throughout the UK.
- Gather and analyze related data to inform communications and enforcement strategies, including thematic reviews of employer cohorts and advisors.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of information and evidence within the case management system.
- Handle sensitive information responsibly, adhering to all statutory and internal data protection requirements.
- Work with confidential materials, following policies to maintain integrity and security, including compliance with GDPR principles.
- Analyze data and information from multiple sources.
- Operate independently across three distinct legislative jurisdictions (England & Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland).
- Occasionally represent TPR in civil and criminal courts and tribunals.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
- Proven track record of achieving successful outcomes in investigations of varying complexity within regulatory or criminal contexts.
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to assess information for sound decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the capacity to engage professionally with diverse stakeholders in person.
- Solid understanding of risk management and its implications for casework prioritization.
- Proficient in utilizing various IT systems, including Microsoft Office and Dynamics 365.
- Willingness to travel across the UK, including occasional overnight stays.
- Commitment to TPR's values and a professional work ethic.
Desirable Qualifications
- Broad knowledge of Automatic Enrolment and the Pensions Act 2008, along with familiarity with pension scheme operations and contribution processes.
- Recognized qualifications such as PIP 2 or Bond Solon or related certifications.
- Experience in applying investigative techniques and conducting investigations through to court proceedings.
- A valid UK driving license.
Personal Attributes
- Ability to prioritize tasks and demonstrate initiative.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
- Effective communication skills across all levels.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Personable demeanor and strong teamwork skills.
Compensation and Benefits
In addition to a competitive salary of £41,383, TPR contributes £11,173 towards your membership in the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
Alongside your salary, we offer:
- Civil Service Pension arrangements, recognized as among the best in the pensions sector.
- Discretionary bonus opportunities.
- Access to performance-related pay progression.
- 25 days of annual leave.
- Flexible working options.
