Job Title: Research Scientist for Machine Learning/LLM Role with ASSISTments Project
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our team at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The successful candidate will have a strong background in machine learning, reinforcement learning, and/or natural language processing, and will be responsible for managing the machine-learning infrastructure behind ASSISTments, a free online math homework platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the machine-learning infrastructure behind ASSISTments, including developing and implementing new features and algorithms.
- Collaborate with Dr. Neil Heffernan and his team to advance research in machine learning and education.
- Assist in grant writing and proposal development to secure funding for related projects.
- Work with Dr. Heffernan's PhD students and their teams to build out the infrastructure and develop new features.
Requirements:
- PhD in computer science, information sciences, or data science, or a related field.
- Strong background in machine learning, reinforcement learning, and/or natural language processing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to target communication to various audiences.
- Experience coordinating cross-team projects, managing timelines and stakeholders, and strategizing creative solutions.
- Proactive, thoughtful, and entrepreneurial work style, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in K-12 education organizations.
- Experience working in a team environment.
