About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Paediatric Nurse to join our innovative Virtual Ward team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. As a Paediatric Nurse Virtual Wards Specialist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality nursing care to children and young people in their own homes, reducing the need for hospital admissions and improving patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver excellent nursing care to children and young people in their own homes, using a range of communication methods including face-to-face visits, telephone calls, and video calls.
  • Work collaboratively with the Virtual Ward team to develop and implement disease-specific pathways for early discharge and prevention of unnecessary hospital admissions.
  • Contribute to the development of the Virtual Ward service, including the design and implementation of new care pathways and the evaluation of existing ones.
  • Provide education and support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals on the Virtual Ward service and its benefits.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures to ensure the safe and effective delivery of the Virtual Ward service.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (Child Branch) or Registered Sick Children's Nurse (RSCN) qualification.
  • Experience of working in acute or community paediatrics, with a strong understanding of the needs of children and young people with acute medical conditions.
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to quality and safety.
  • Experience of audit and quality improvement initiatives, with a strong understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice.
