We are looking for a dedicated Birth Registration Specialist to deliver exceptional customer service while fulfilling the statutory responsibilities of a Deputy Registrar. This includes the registration of births, stillbirths, deaths, and the attestation of notices for civil partnerships.
The ideal candidate will adopt a collaborative approach, utilizing their initiative to navigate challenges and achieve results while supporting colleagues and executing tasks in a systematic and organized manner.

Adaptability to various situations is essential, as is the ability to make confident decisions at the front line to ensure that inquiries are addressed promptly and effectively.
Services may be provided from multiple locations, and the successful candidate will be expected to work from any designated service point within the borough.
Candidate Profile
This role presents a fantastic opportunity to work as a versatile Registration Officer in a fast-paced environment. The position is entirely office-based.
Engagement with customers in a professional and sensitive manner is crucial, as responsibilities include registering births, stillbirths, deaths, marriages, and civil partnerships, as well as conducting ceremonies and issuing certificates alongside other administrative tasks.
The successful applicant will have prior experience in a busy registration service, demonstrating flexibility and the ability to perform under pressure to meet deadlines.
A motivated individual who understands the demands of this environment and possesses a solid grasp of the sensitive and confidential nature of the service is essential.
Strong communication skills and a keen attention to detail are mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
- In-depth knowledge of legislation related to civil registration, with essential experience in birth and death registration.
- Comprehensive understanding of the Immigration Act as it pertains to marriage parties subject to immigration control.
- Extensive experience in taking legal notices of intention to marry from couples under immigration control and those marrying abroad.
- Significant experience working within the registration service.
- Ability to explain complex legislative requirements to customers clearly.
Some weekend work may be necessary, and travel to various venues within the borough will require the use of personal transport, with mileage reimbursed - business use insurance is a prerequisite.
