Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Scientist to join our team at Reed Engineering & Manufacturing. As an Analytical Chemist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of our products and raw materials.

Main Responsibilities
  • Sample Preparation: Prepare a wide variety of samples for different analytical techniques, ensuring accuracy and precision.
  • Testing and Evaluation: Conduct a range of testing following Safety and Quality procedures on a variety of Super Alloys, evaluating results against standards and specifications.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure testing equipment is maintained and calibrated prior to use, adhering to relevant procedures and specifications.
  • Result Validation: Validate and certify results on relevant media, reporting discrepancies to technical supervision.
  • Quality Audits: Participate in quality audits as required, ensuring compliance with UKAS and NADCAP standards.
  • Administrative Tasks: Order entry, general administration, and responding to customer queries in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Metallurgy/Materials Science, Science, or Chemistry-based qualification (e.g., BTEC/ONC/HNC). Candidates without these qualifications but with relevant industrial knowledge and experience will be considered.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in computer software and systems.
  • Experience: Demonstrable experience of optical emission spectroscopy, x-ray fluorescence, Carbon, Sulphur N2, and O2 analysis by combustion, residual analysis by Atomic Absorption, and working in a UKAS/NADCAP laboratory-based environment.
  • Shift Work: Ability to work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern.
  • Positive Attitude: A positive attitude to safety and quality, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
Benefits

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary and a bonus of up to £4,126 per annum (£1,031 per quarter), with an OTE of £45,388.
