Job Title: Pastoral Assistant

MLK Education Search is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Assistant to support the wellbeing and academic success of students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To identify and implement effective strategies to support students with pastoral and behavioural needs, utilizing behaviour data and assessments to inform individualized plans.
  • Provide tailored support to students, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities, while promoting social skills and self-esteem.
  • Collaborate with teachers and teaching assistants to develop and implement intervention strategies for students with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties.
  • Liaise with external agencies, create and review Educational, Health, and Care Plans, and Additional Needs Plans, to ensure comprehensive support for students.
  • Work closely with staff, students, parents, and stakeholders to improve attendance and punctuality, and monitor progress towards set goals.
  • Develop and implement innovative support strategies, regularly reviewing their impact and effectiveness.
  • Support students in developing social skills, both in and out of the classroom, through pastoral support and promoting independence.
  • Coach and mentor students to improve their behaviour and engagement with education, while establishing supportive relationships with pupils and parents.
  • Prepare reports and follow up with parents to ensure accurate school information.
  • Encourage students to resolve conflicts amicably and safely, utilizing school systems to record and track information.
  • Support the supervision of students during unstructured times, such as breaks and lunchtimes, and on visits, trips, and out-of-school activities.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications:

  • GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Relevant training in attendance strategies or a commitment to undergo training after probation
  • Strong experience in planning, managing, and implementing attendance strategies within a school setting
  • Experience identifying interventions to raise attendance and working with students with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties
  • Experience teaching small groups and individuals, and working collaboratively with colleagues
  • Experience analysing data and producing reports, and identifying key insights
