Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Assistant to join our team at a specialist school that supports young girls with various needs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing individualised support to pupils with pastoral and behavioural needs, working closely with teachers and teaching assistants to develop effective intervention strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To identify and support pupils with pastoral and behavioural needs, using behaviour data and assessments to inform Individual Behaviour Plans and risk assessments.
  • To provide specific support to pupils, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • To advise teachers and teaching assistants on intervention strategies to manage pupil behaviour.
  • To liaise with outside agencies, write reports, and develop Educational, Health and Care Plans and Additional Needs Plans.
  • To work with staff, students, parents, and stakeholders to improve attendance and punctuality.
  • To monitor pupils' learning and behaviour, providing feedback to relevant staff on the effectiveness of behaviour strategies.
  • To develop innovative support strategies for individuals and their families, regularly reviewing their impact.
  • To support pupils in developing social skills, promoting self-esteem and independence.
  • To coach and mentor pupils to improve their behaviour and engagement with education.
  • To establish supportive relationships with pupils, parents, and carers.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications:

  • GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Relevant training in attendance strategies or a commitment to undergo training after probationary period.
  • Strong experience of planning and implementing attendance strategies in a school setting.
  • Experience identifying interventions to raise attendance.
  • Experience of teaching small groups or individuals.
  • Experience working with students with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties.
  • Experience of planning and monitoring progress of individual or small groups.
  • Experience working directly with pupils and parents.
  • Experience working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Experience analysing data and producing reports.
