CRA GROUP LIMITED is seeking a highly skilled Benefits Assessment Officer to join our team.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Benefits Assessment Officer to process and pay Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, Discretionary Council Tax Reduction, and Local Welfare Assistance applications promptly and correctly in accordance with legislation and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Application Processing: Process and pay Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, Discretionary Council Tax Reduction, and Local Welfare Assistance applications in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Customer Enquiries: Resolve telephone, face-to-face, and written enquiries from residents, landlords, external agencies, and other Council departments.
  • Advice and Signposting: Provide advice on welfare assistance and signpost customers to other agencies for help and support where applicable.
  • Account Management: Ensure Council Tax account information is accurate and resolve any discrepancies that may affect the financial award.
  • Overpayment Recovery: Take or initiate action to recover overpayments of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, and Discretionary Council Tax Reduction in line with policies and procedures.
Essential Requirements:
  • Qualifications: GCSE English and Maths grade A-C or equivalent.
  • Experience: Relevant assessment experience with Housing Benefit and Council Tax rebate.
  • Customer Service: Experience of working with customers and understanding their needs.
  • Financial Skills: Proven ability to work with numbers and financial calculations.
  • Quality and Efficiency: Taking responsibility for quality and completion of own work within standards.
  • Adaptability: Flexible and willing to adapt to change in a busy and demanding work environment.
  • Software Skills: Experience of using NEC Northgate Revenues & Benefits and/or Capita Academy.
