Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for a dedicated and motivated nutrition specialist with a focus on pediatric care to become a part of the Pediatric Team at a leading children's healthcare facility. This role is classified as a Band 6 position; however, we welcome applications from individuals who are at the beginning of their Pediatric Nutrition career and are seeking further experience and growth within a specialized environment, provided they possess relevant acute nutrition experience.

Our team is known for its supportive and collaborative atmosphere, delivering a comprehensive pediatric nutrition service across various locations. The team currently comprises 11 professionals, including a nutrition assistant.

A passion for pediatric care and experience in any acute nutrition setting is essential. We value your initiative, flexibility, and excellent communication and time management skills, along with your ability to work autonomously while effectively collaborating with a diverse range of staff, patients, and the community.

Main Responsibilities

As a member of our team, you will deliver specialized nutritional guidance to both inpatients and outpatients within hospital and community environments. The successful candidate will support the senior ward nutritionist for three days each week, as well as manage a face-to-face clinic and a telephone consultation service weekly. You will also assist the home enteral feeding nutrition service for patients transitioning home and collaborate with gastroenterology nutritionists for inpatient and outpatient assessments. The caseload is diverse and engaging, encompassing critical care, diabetes, gastroenterology, eating disorders, neonatology, cystic fibrosis, and nutritional support, often working within multidisciplinary teams. Additionally, there is a significant caseload of home enteral nutrition patients. The role also offers opportunities to conduct audits, provide training to patients, caregivers, and other community professionals, and contribute to service enhancement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver nutritional care for managing children with various conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Prioritize and provide specialized pediatric nutrition services across multiple acute care locations and designated clinics, collaborating with colleagues throughout the healthcare system.
  • Offer specialized education and training to medical professionals, including doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and fellow nutritionists.
  • Engage in research initiatives and support audit opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, parents, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and high-quality pediatric nutrition service for both inpatients and outpatients, adhering to established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition protocols and pathways for infants and children within various specialties.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nutritionist (with relevant BSc, postgraduate diploma, or master's degree).
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Health Care Professions Council registration.

Knowledge/Experience/Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrated relevant work experience in pediatric nutrition within the NHS.
  • Experience as a nutritionist in an acute care setting within the NHS.
  • Experience working in various clinical environments.
  • Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team collaboration.

Desirable

  • Experience as a practitioner in pediatric nutrition.
