Key Responsibilities

We are seeking proactive and dynamic individuals to fill the role of Lead Biomedical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry. Candidates must possess a comprehensive understanding of the technologies and methodologies relevant to both core and specialized areas. The successful candidates will take on supervisory roles in various sections of the department, commensurate with their expertise, overseeing both technical and scientific operations.

The role emphasizes the importance of supporting, maintaining, and enhancing Quality, Learning, and Health and Safety Management Systems within the designated work area. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership and management skills, driving quality improvements and collaborating across the network of laboratories.

Successful candidates must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist and meet the following qualifications:

  • CPSM Log book (Clinical Biochemistry) if qualified prior to 2003.
  • Registration portfolio IBMS (Clinical Biochemistry 2003 to 2004) and Diploma in Biomedical Science IBMS (Blood Sciences 2005).
  • Specialist Diploma IBMS (Clinical Biochemistry 2005 onwards).
  • Fellowship (Clinical Chemistry), MSc Biomedical Science, or an equivalent qualification at the MSc level.

Experience Requirements

Essential:

  • A minimum of 5 years of post-HCPC registration experience in a busy, acute medical clinical chemistry laboratory.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to change.
  • Experience with various diagnostic techniques in Clinical Biochemistry.
  • Proficient in using computerized laboratory information systems.
  • Skilled in evaluating the authenticity of patient results.

Desirable:

  • Experience in staff management.
  • Experience in training and mentoring staff.
  • Familiarity with optimizing and troubleshooting specific laboratory equipment.
  • Experience with various IT systems relevant to laboratory operations.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Competence in routine laboratory techniques and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and present data effectively.
  • Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable:

  • Good keyboard skills.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • Possession of relevant qualifications as outlined above.
