Senior Technical Officer (DFG) Opportunity

MMP Consultancy is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Officer to join a local authority in the South West on an interim basis. This 6-9 month contract offers a competitive hourly rate of £49 (Umbrella).

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing clients' applications for Disabled Facilities Grants, loans, and repair grants. This will involve designing and organising schemes to ensure properties meet the needs of individuals and the Decent Homes Standard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understand and promote the council's equality, diversity, and inclusion policies, as well as health and safety practices.
  • Arrange and undertake site visits, meetings with applicants, occupational therapists, architects, and contractors to determine eligibility for financial assistance.
  • Ensure project feasibility and scope of work, undertake measured surveys, and provide technical advice.
  • Produce practical specifications, detailed drawings, and schedules of work for extensions and adaptations.
  • Obtain quotations and estimates from contractors, scrutinise them, and undertake a fair costings exercise.
  • Carry out interim and final inspections, appraise unforeseen works, and negotiate with applicants and contractors in matters of dispute.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building regulations, planning permission, and listed building consent. Excellent communication and project management skills are essential for this role.
