Job Title: Head of Food Safety

As a key member of the Asda Stores Ltd team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Food and Non-Edible Safety Framework, ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality across the business.

About the Role

This is a pivotal position that requires a strong technical background in food manufacturing and processing, as well as experience in leading retail or group technical/compliance teams. You will be accountable for identifying risks and opportunities, staying ahead of industry issues, and representing Asda on key industry forums.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the Food and Non-Edible Safety Framework, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Lead a high-performing team focused on delivering the 6 key areas of the Food and Non-Edible Safety Framework.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to provide advisory support on food safety controls and incident management.
  • Build powerful partnerships with suppliers and stakeholders to drive a food safety culture and implement business strategy effectively.
  • Develop and mentor colleagues, creating an environment for growth and development.
Requirements
  • Relevant degree or equivalent in a scientific area.
  • Experience in food manufacturing/processing and leading retail or group technical/compliance teams.
  • Strong technical track record in a retail or retailer-facing environment.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to influence and shape outcomes using expertise and creativity.
  • Experience in application of 3rd party food standards and accreditation processes.
  • Proven line management experience, committed to coaching individuals and developing talent.
