We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Nurse to join our Respiratory Weaning and Rehabilitation Unit. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our specialist service.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a group of patients within the specialty, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver individualized and personalized direct patient care.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, providing specialist advice and guidance as needed.
- Administer prescribed medication, including transfusions of blood and blood products, and ensure accurate records are maintained.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies, taking appropriate action and leading others to do the same.
- Ensure patients receive high-quality clinical care and a positive patient experience, respecting their customs, beliefs, and doctrines.
- Provide leadership, support, and guidance to staff in monitoring, planning, delivering, and evaluating individualized care.
- Be accountable for practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct, sustaining and improving knowledge and professional competence.
- Ensure safe and effective care for complex patients requiring advanced clinical skills, carrying out specialist nursing procedures as needed.
- Store sensitive patient records appropriately and ensure staff take precautions to minimize the risk of cross-infection.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and families regarding disease treatment and management.
- Facilitate a high-quality, cost-effective specialist service through monitoring, audit, and quality initiatives agreed by the Trust.
- Identify and intervene in circumstances contributing to an unsafe environment for patients and staff, reporting instances to the Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Contribute to the Trust's clinical supervision program for staff and assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in developing a culture that is challenging, stimulating, rewarding, and supportive.
- Act as a mentor/assessor to unqualified staff, providing education, advice, and support to a team of nurses.
- Utilize research findings in delivering specialist patient care, developing new ways of working, and disseminating relevant information to staff.
- Provide a leadership role model, demonstrating specialist knowledge and high standards of clinical practice, and offering support or advice when needed.
- Maintain accurate records of the clinical service and ensure confidentiality of information is adhered to.
- Organize own work and manage own caseload and practice, identifying and maintaining supportive networks for self and other staff members.
- Take an active role in risk assessment, supporting the implementation of strategies to minimize risk, and ensuring incidents and near misses are reported through a no-blame culture.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Nurse who meets the following criteria:
- Registered Nurse (RN1/RN2/RN12 or RN Child) on the NMC register, with the appropriate level for the area of specialty.
- BSC/1st degree (health-related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience.
- Mentorship or teaching qualification.
- Evidence of specialist course.
- Post-registration qualification in or relevant experience and competence (appropriate area of specialty).
- Leadership qualification (desirable).
- Experience and competence in managing patients within the specialty.
- Experience of teaching, assessing, and supervising others in a clinical setting.
- Supervision of junior staff.
- Management of Tracheostomies.
- Leadership qualification (desirable).
