Clinical Autism Specialist
We are seeking an experienced Learning Disability and Autism Nurse to join our team in a new role within our intensive support resource. This resource provides specialized care to individuals presenting with autism in our urgent and emergency care pathways. The post will be based in Central Norfolk, working alongside a consultant clinical psychologist and an assistant psychologist. Our intensive support resource focuses on providing formulation-led and recovery-oriented care to individuals with comorbid autism and mental health difficulties for up to a year. We anticipate that many of our service users will be in the 18-25 age group, based on our local service utilization data.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe postholder will work directly with service users, their carers, and families. They will collaborate with our other providers in the system to develop robust and effective care packages that support service users in achieving their recovery goals and reducing mental health crises. The postholder will also provide consultation services to the wider Central Norfolk team on autism-related matters. The post will be supervised by the Consultant Psychologist for the team.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe postholder will have the opportunity to shape the pathway and model as it evolves to better support individuals with autism. We anticipate a capped caseload to ensure a small cohort of service users can receive intensive support. Service users will be identified through their repeat presentations to our Urgent and Emergency Care pathways. We encourage the successful candidate to train in DBT and contribute to making our DBT program more effective and accessible for individuals with autism. To ensure equity of access across Norfolk and Waveney, the post requires adequate geographical reach across the entire ICB footprint. Joint working with our key system partners for LD, Autism, and Mental Health is essential for this role. The postholder will be an experienced and enthusiastic LD&A nurse with a passion for working with and improving services for individuals with autism. They will possess highly specialist skills and knowledge about working with autism and learning disability. Opportunities will also be available to support wider services through the provision of training.
Person Specification- Registered Mental Health Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
