Job Summary

The Outdoor Instructor will be responsible for planning, organizing, and teaching assigned outdoor recreational activities for USU students within the USU Eastern Campus Life Department. This role includes grading, engaging with students, and ensuring they understand course expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and lead one trip within the 7-week course related to the specific outdoor recreation class.
  • Conduct an initial class on the first week of the semester to review trip details, discuss needs, safety, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Campus Life Department to enhance the outdoor program course.
  • Follow all University policies and procedures for taking students on trips and engaging with students.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, safe, and ready for use.
  • Assess students' skills, participation, and knowledge throughout the course and provide constructive feedback.
  • Encourage a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Keep detailed records of trips and student participation.
  • Stay updated with current trends and practices in outdoor education and recreation.
  • Review the class course fee annually and recommend any necessary adjustments.
Qualifications
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in related outdoor activity.
  • Knowledge of and experience in planning and organizing trips and events.
Working Conditions

The position requires considerable physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, including heavy lifting (50 pounds) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting. Additionally, the work environment can include confined or narrow spaces. Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment.
