Lead Social Worker (Children's Services)

Make a Positive Impact - Children's Social Work in Cornwall

Cornwall's proactive and forward-thinking senior leadership team fosters a robust culture of continuous learning and professional growth. The team effectively utilizes insights from research, exemplary practices, and peer evaluations.

Our social workers possess a comprehensive understanding of the children they serve; they engage with them regularly to ensure their needs are thoroughly addressed.

Staff development is supported through a well-structured and targeted workforce development framework, contributing to high staff morale.

OFSTED OUTSTANDING GRADING

The Service & Team:

Social workers significantly impact the lives of children in Cornwall. We believe that every child in Cornwall deserves exceptional care. Their needs are central to our mission, and we seek individuals who share our commitment to enhancing their lives and creating a brighter future. If you advocate for compassionate, relationship-centered social work with children and families, we provide opportunities to advance your social work career within an innovative and ambitious children's service in one of the most picturesque regions of the country.

To uphold our commitment to exemplary practice, we have established a comprehensive core curriculum and career progression pathway for our social workers, enabling them to enhance their knowledge and skills for effective interventions with children and families. If you are dedicated to ongoing professional development and can demonstrate your learning through improved outcomes for the children you support, we will offer you career options and compensation that reflect your expertise.

We actively encourage top practitioners to remain in frontline roles and reward their dedication and skills. The Lead Social Worker position is one of two Advanced Practitioner roles in Cornwall, aligned with the Professional Capabilities Framework and the Knowledge and Skills Statement for Practice Supervisors. Lead Social Workers engage directly in practice, maintain a manageable caseload, supervise fellow practitioners, facilitate team-based learning, and act in place of the Team Manager.

The Role:

We have exciting full-time opportunities for Lead Social Workers available throughout the County.

This is a public-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector employees applies.

This position will require an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

The Lead Social Worker role necessitates extensive experience in evidence-based practices with children and families, along with substantial expertise in this area. Consequently, the salary scale for our Advanced Practitioners matches that of our Team Managers.

What You'll Receive in Return:

Cornwall Council aspires to be an employer of choice, a high-performing organization, and a learning entity. We are committed to offering a rewards and benefits package designed to attract, motivate, and retain our employees. We provide various flexible working options to our staff, promoting a better work/life balance while ensuring service needs are met.

Cornwall is among the finest places in the country to live, work, and raise a family. We are dedicated to supporting our staff's well-being, recognizing that resilient Social Workers require a healthy work/life balance, along with supportive leadership and workplace assistance. Cornwall's unique location and landscape offer exceptional opportunities for a healthier, happier lifestyle.

In acknowledgment of your vital contributions, we offer an attractive benefits package, including:

  • A competitive starting salary, equivalent to that of a Team Manager
  • A generous relocation package
  • A welcome bonus of £4000 for qualified Social Workers new to Cornwall who have completed their ASYE
  • An individualized induction tailored to your specific needs and learning
  • An outstanding core curriculum to support your ongoing development with a high-quality program of evidence-based learning
  • A recognized career and qualification pathway, endorsed by Ofsted, to support your progression
  • Support from dedicated Practice Educators throughout your career pathway
  • Regular, high-quality case and reflective supervision
  • Supportive management and leadership
  • Assistance in accessing temporary accommodation if relocating
  • Access to a Cornwall Council lease car
  • 26 days of paid annual leave per year (increasing with length of service), plus bank holidays
  • Flexible working opportunities, including part-time hours and remote work
  • Access to Community Care Inform and Research in Practice resources
